CURLS For GIRLS!

Do you want Taylor Swift curls? Who doesn’t? Not only are they gorgeous but everything about Miss Swift is AMAZING! Her curls are NOT naturally that gorgeous. She uses the Hardcore Professional styling iron. It’s shaped like a long triangle and has no clamps. In order to get those spindle waves you first comb a thin section of hair and wrap it starting at the top of the iron. Twirl down the triangle iron so the piece of hair at the root is a wider curl and then ends of the hair are smaller curls. Repeat all over the heads. Use Kerastase Elixir soft oil and a little Kerastase Double Force Hairspray. Voila! You are gorgeous as a peach!

Moncler Grenoble autumn/winter 2011 at New York Fashion Week

Departure boards were flashing trains to Stamford, White Plains and Mount Vernon; late weekenders were struggling with push-chairs and baggage; tourists weaving their way to the information booths – just another Sunday night at Grand Central Station in New York.

And then, suddenly, the Beaux Arts Grand Concourse erupted into a fashion frenzy last night as Moncler Grenoble, the skiwear giant, took over the world’s largest train station for a ‘Flash Mob’ extravaganza. Underneath the domed ceiling of stars, which depicts the signs of the zodiac backwards, and the backdrop for so many Hollywood movies, more than 200 dancers and singers took centre stage in a choreographed performance inspired by legendary dance-maestro Bob Fosse.

Dressed in high-tech Moncler skiwear, in shades of mustard, burgundy, grey snd black, they worked through a synchronized routine to a soundtrack which slalom-ed from Tchaikovsky and tap-dance (think 42nd Street) to salsa and Streisand. Passengers were literally stopped in their tracks to make way for the quilted, padded and be-goggled fashion version of a oorps-de-ballet. Thousands of passers-by stood goggle-eyed as Grand Central became ‘fashion central’ for a few minutes and for one night only in the middle of New York Fashion Week. When the troupe simultaneously stepped and segue-ed into the O’Jays “Love Train” the style circle was complete.

The clothes, from my eyrie, high up on a balcony, looked astonishing. Apparently, they took inspiration from the legendary Italian downhill skier, architect, aerobatic pilot, photographer and author, Carlo Molino. Would that he had been alive to see such an inspired, 21st century interpretation of ski-chic brought down-to-earth with such skill and finesse.

En Pointe….

It is often a bride’s fantasy to feel like a princess on her wedding day. This season, however, brides may prefer to embody the spirit and style of a ballerina. With the recent success of Darren Aronofsky’s Oscar-nominated film “Black Swan,” it is no surprise that brides and their attendants are looking to emulate the elegant grace of Natalie Portman’s character, Nina Sayers, and the rebellious glamour of Lily, played by Mila Kunis. The Mulleavy sisters of Rodarte designed dance costumes for the “Black Swan” ballet dancers. These looks are elegant and over-the-top with embellishments running the gamut from feathers to sequins and fabrics that are typical ballet fare such as lace and tulle.

The stunning costumes are sure to provide plenty of inspiration to brides in pursuit of the perfect gown. Luckily, bridal designers have included plenty of beautiful ballet-inspired pieces in their 2011 collections. Top designers such as Vera Wang and Oscar de la Renta are putting their own twist on the ballerina trend. Various interpretations include a demure strapless ball gown with a tulle skirt and bow belt detail by Amsale as well as Rosa Clará’s flirty tea-length creation with a full, two-tier skirt and lacy, corseted bodice.

Dance infused gowns are fresh this season, but connect with historical trends from long ago. One of the first known instances of ballet-inspired bridal fashion was the wedding of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1840. At the ceremony, she wore an opulent gown of white satin and a lace veil. Her bridesmaids were dressed in matching white gowns, taking inspiration from the corps de ballet, the stylized dancers accompanying the prima ballerina.

From serenely sweet to fashionably brazen, there is a ballet-inspired style for every bride-to-be. Whether she considers herself a bold black swan or a poised white swan, it is certain that with the vast array of options for the ballerina bride, she will find the perfect fit for her wedding day.

6 Shopping Apps for Android and iPhone That Will Instantly Turn you Into a Shopping Ninja!!

Our efforts to be responsible with our personal finances  and the desire or need to shop often clash, so being frugal and educated when hitting the mall or grocery store is essential. That rings especially true these days, when everyone is about to or has just kicked off the holiday shopping season.

Thankfully, a number of shopping apps for iPhone and Android phones seamlessly enhance your shopping experiences with price comparisons, targeted coupons, information, reviews, rewards, and more.

We went searching for the best shopping apps on the market, and keeping in line with Mint.com‘s frugal values, they are all free.

Looking for other great personal finance apps? Check out this list of the best free financial calculator apps, best iPad personal finance apps and the best Android personal finance apps.

Shopkick

Available on: Android (free), iPhone (free)

Potentially the hottest shopping app this holiday season, Shopkick is a rewards app that gives you ‘kickbucks’ for walking into its partner stores, scanning barcodes on specified items, and completing certain actions, which can be combined and unlock bonus rewards points (almost like putting together a puzzle). These reward points can then be redeemed for free gift cards at those stores, iTunes gift cards, or other incentives.

The app is still in its infant stages and its most notable partners at this point are Best Buy, Target, American Eagle, and Macy’s. Will these promotions pay off for Shopkick’s partners to the point that they will want to continue running the incentives or will people game the system and end up not purchasing things? Time will tell, but if more national partners are brought on board, this app could really take off due to its fun factor and uniqueness.

Google Shopper

Available on: Android (free)

Search for a product by image, barcode, voice, or typing what you’re looking for. Once the product is identified, you’ll find a product description, online reviews, price comparisons, local stores that carry the product, and even detailed directions on how to get there. Zero app developers have as much backing to create apps as Google, which is why this app remains free and incredibly functional.

ShopSavvy

Available on: Android (free), iPhone (free)

Not as full-featured as Google Shopper, this is nevertheless the go-to app for barcode scanning for iPhone (where Google Shopper is not yet available). You can scan a barcode, get online price comparisons, see user generated reviews, and then directions to the nearest store that carries the item.

Points Inside

Available on: Android Market (free)  iPhone (free)

How many times have you been lost in a mall or airport, couldn’t find a directory map, and had absolutely no clue where you were or where you needed to get to? Points Inside aims to come to your rescue. It includes interactive maps for over 700 malls and 85 U.S. and international airports that shows you where you are located and where your destination is. Pretty sweet. Check out this list to see if the mall in your area or airport you’ll be flying into is covered.

Grocery IQ

Available on: Android (free), iPhone (free)

This grocery shopping app (created by Coupons.com) takes grocery shopping to the next level. Make grocery lists, scan barcodes of items you frequently buy, sync and share your grocery lists with others (so you don’t double down on the same items as those you live with), and send coupons right to your loyalty card. Having a consistent grocery list for each store you shop at is a fail-safe way to keep your grocery expenses down. Getting targeted coupons on the stuff that you already buy? Even better.

Key Ring Rewards Cards

Available on: Android (free), iPhone (free)

Love loyalty cards but hate having a key-ring that feels like a mini flip book engulfing your pocket? Or maybe you have the bigger versions stuffed into your wallet, which is single-handedly giving your chiropractor job security. You can use this app’s scanner to scan your key ring barcodes (or manually put in the numbers if the scanner doesn’t work). From there, you can simply use your mobile device at checkout as your loyalty card. Also, for those stores that you have a loyalty card with that partner with Cellfire coupons and 33 grocery store chains, the coupons automatically get uploaded to your loyalty card, you can track which coupons you have available.

Which of these apps do you frequently use? And which of your shopping app favorites didn’t make our list?

MUST HAVE MONDAY

Black tie anyone? No one said it doesn’t apply to the woman as well. Literally that is what Dolce & Gabbana accomplished for this flirty, tiered silk gown from their D&G line, most recently seen on Miley Cyrus at the MTV Europe Music Awards. I love the play on boyish feminism. This dress is ideal for holiday parties now but could work perfectly well into the spring. Get it now because this is a sell-out!
